I have had the pleasure to work with Catherine Meakin and the staff at Beanstalks in reviewing their after school snacks to ensure that they are as healthy and nutritious as possible. One thing I am happy to say is that the foundations of the current menu plans made it easy for me to add and change just a couple of areas to ensure that the balance of carbohydrates, proteins and healthy fats were there for the little ones.
As a mum of two myself, I know how hard it can be to satisfy hungry tummies after school, especially in the cold winter months. Although hot snacks tend to be the area we focus on, sometimes cold snacks provide more nutrients and satisfy hunger due to the nutrient content. Vegetables and fruit are bursting with nutrients, flavor and complex carbohydrates for sustained energy. Although they may not be the No 1 choice of our little ones (believe me – I know from experience!), they most certainly should be for us parents as it promotes healthier choices for our little ones as they grow.
I am confident that the menu changes will be a hit and have enjoyed working with Beanstalks.
